A Cosplay Meetup at Kanimecon Lawrence is a gathering for a specific fandom. They’re a great way to connect with fans, discuss the fandom, show off your cosplay, and take group photos.

Dress and Prop Policy

BADGES

Badges Your event badge or wristband in a visible location at all times. You may be denied entry to buildings without an appropriate badge or wristband

ATTIRE

Appropriate Attire All attire, props and accessories, must comply with the federal, state and city laws, as well as the Douglas County Fairgrounds rules and policies.

Face coverings Partial face coverings, such as superhero or medical masks, are allowed. Ski masks, balaclavas, and other full-head coverings are not permitted, except for fursuit heads or similar types. Masks may need to be temporarily or permanently removed for security or safety purposes.

Content Attire that conveys hate speech, discrimination, or offensive content is prohibited.

Insensitive Culturally insensitive and or hate speech attire (e.g., blackface, Nazi symbols) are not allowed.

Explicit Nudity, sexually explicit (e.g., Ahegao), extreme gore and profanity.

Political Political or controversial messages are not permitted.

Prohibited Dressing as security, law-enforcement, or convention staff is prohibited.

Coverage Attire must cover private areas fully. The majority of your butt cheeks must be covered. Sheer fabrics, body paint, pasties, or costumes resembling genitalia or female nipples are not appropriate. Outlines or prominent visibility of genitalia whether through tight or form fitting clothing are not permitted. If you choose to wear tight-fitting attire (e.g., bodysuits, leggings, cosplay, etc.), please consider appropriate undergarments or supportive garments (such as a dance belt or athletic cup) to maintain modesty. Undergarments or lingerie must remain hidden. If you can’t wear it at must public pools, you can’t wear it here.

Footwear Footwear is mandatory and must fully cover the sole. We recommend sturdy shoes like tennis shoes or boots for your safety.

Stilts Stilts are prohibited, but platform shoes are acceptable.

Wheels Footwear with wheels (e.g., roller skates, Heelys), and accessories with wheels (e.g., skateboards, hoverboards), are prohibited.

Aids Wheelchairs or equipment needed for assiste walking or medical purposes are allowed.

Size Parameters

Walkways Be mindful of walkways and exits; do not block paths with your costume or props. If your costume blocks traffic, you may be asked to remove or modify it.

Size Props over 7 feet in length or width are not allowed inside buildings.

Wings Wings with a wingspan exceeding 4 feet are not allowed indoors.

Prohibited Loose glitter or sparkles on the body are prohibited. Along with anything can leave a residue or trail.

Body Paint Body paint is not allowed, except for the face and neck. Use bodysuits, gloves, or tights as alternatives. You may be responsible for damages, clean up or replacements of items, floors, walls and furniture that are affected by your body paint.

Materials

Materials Weapons made of metal, wood, fiberglass, or glass are not allowed unless they pass an in-person evaluation.

Residue Materials or objects that leave behind a residue or trail are prohibited. (e.g. dust, confetti, glitter, litter).

PROPS AND ACCESSORIES

Props and Accessories All props must go through prop check and be visibly tagged while on Douglas County fairgrounds property. We are not responsible for any damages caused by or from tagging.

Disclosure You must disclose the material(s) that make up your attire, props and accessories during prop check.

Gun and Weapon Props

Fake Props must be fake and appear visibly fake.

No Realistic Guns Real or realistic guns and items such as BB guns, paintball guns or some airsoft guns, are strictly prohibited.

No Realistic Weapons No real or realistic looking modern bows, crossbows, knives or other weapons.

Realistic Realistic is defined as anything the general public may think is a real gun or weapon from 15 feet away.

Sharp Sharp-edged props, blades, or pointed objects are prohibited.

Blunt Blunt objects, such as golf clubs, baseball bats or any other bat or club are not allowed.

Chainsaws No real chainsaws.

Orange Tip Prop guns must have a bright orange tip and follow local laws.

Color Restrictions Prop guns painted in camouflage, black, or gray may also be required to be peace-bound if they fall in the gray area between realistic and unrealistic guns.

Handling No prop firearms should be aimed at anyone. Doing so may result in you being asked to take the prop off the premise or being asked to leave the premise altogether.

Projectile Props Guidelines

Projectiles Projectile props such as silly string, confetti poppers, pop guns, paintball guns, BB guns, t-shirt guns, water guns, or slingshots are not allowed.

Bow Bow props are allowed however they can not be strung. They should be incapable of shooting any type of projectile and not appear as a threat.

Airsoft Guns Airsoft Guns should not have any projectiles and must be altered to be incapable of shooting any projectiles. Gun props cannot shoot any type of projectile.

Flying Objects

Drones Drones or flying objects are not permitted unless you have prior permission from the event organizer.

SAFETY

Safety First No play fighting, hitting, smacking or throwing items at others. Exceptions can be made for entertainers or larping areas/equipment, but permission can only be granted by the event organizer and must be in writing prior to the event.

Lights Strobe lights or other lights that could cause a seizure are prohibited.

Safety Props that generate fire, smoke, music, noise makers, pop guns, sound like a firearm or make any loud sounds are prohibited.

Sharp Items with sharp edges, blades or sharp points are not permitted to prevent accidental injuries. (e.g. ice skates, real swords)

Animals Live animals even as part of costumes are strictly prohibited. Service animals are allowed.

HYGIENE

Hygiene Maintain personal hygiene. Please use deodorant and keep your costume clean to ensure a pleasant experience for all attendees.

CONSEQUENCES

Violations Situations where the policy has been violated will be handled individually.

Company’s Authority to Direct Event Company may, in its sole discretion, request the relocation, adjustment, modification or removal of any item(s) or attire that does not comply with the dress and prop policy or that pose a safety risk. This includes, but is not limited to, items that obstruct walkways, create safety hazards, or are deemed inappropriate by Company. The request to relocate, modify or remove items will not entitle the wearer or attendee, exhibitor, guest, or sponsor to any form of discount, refund, or compensation. Attendee shall comply with such requests promptly and without expectation of financial adjustment. Kanimecon Lawrence reserves the right to refuse entry or eject anyone not following the dress code.

Violations of Company’s Policies Failure to comply with Event Policies may result in warnings, fines, law enforcement involvement, expulsion from the Event without a refund, or a permanent ban from future events. Company staff have the final say in all matters related to compliance with Event Policies.

Policy Updates Company reserves the right to make changes to these Event Policies, and Company will communicate any changes to Attendees.
