This year at SCARAB we have several events planned that might not fit into the normal TableTop experience. We hope you check them out and find something you'll enjoy!
This year we are introducing a miniature painting contest. Time to show us what you've got. Entrants will be broken up into one of two age-based categories this year - Under 15 and 15 And Above. You must also provide proof of painting (see rules details). Voting starts at Noon Saturday, so all entries should be submitted for display before then. Winners will receive a certificate, a modest trophy, and the adoration of the masses!
Rules:
There are two categories for the first year (2025) of The New Golden Scarab based on age: "Under 15" and "15 and over". Based on growth, future years we may increase the number of categories as determined to be needed to include skill levels and/or miniature type (single, diorama, vehicle, etc.).
a) "Under 15" any painter who has not yet reached their 15th birthday as of January 17, 2025 is eligible to enter the "Under 15" category.
b) All painters who have reached their 15th birthday as of January 17, 2025 shall be entered into the "15 and older" category.
The competition will be decided by vote of the badge holders using a Google Form linked via QR posted near the Display Area, Registration, and other areas around the convention area. A link will also be placed here when available.
a) One vote is allowed per badge holder.
b) Voting will open at Noon Saturday and run until 6 PM Saturday.
c) During voting, each entry on the voting form will have a front and back photograph shown without the entrant or names of the entrant shown. [To be taken at the convention.]
d) Awards will be given for 1st place (one per category), 2nd place (one per category), 3rd place (up to two per category) and Honorable Mention (up to 3 for the 15 and over age grouping; unlimited for the under 15 age grouping)
The awards will be announced by Noon Sunday (January 19, 2025).
All miniatures must be painted by the SCARAB badge holder entering the miniature.
a) Any miniature painted at a SCARAB a painting event (such as a Paint and Take) at the same year as the convention (2025) is eligible for entry by the SCARAB badge holder who painted it in the presence of a Paint and Take host or SCARAB staff member (said host or staff member must attest to the badge holder's claim).
b) Evidence of any miniatures not painted at a SCARAB painting event (Paint and Take) must be provided no later than the opening of the year's (January 17, 2025) SCARAB Convention via the provided and posted email: minis @ scarabcon.com
Evidence must include work in progress (WIP) images or video showing the miniature and entrant.
c) A single badge holder may enter multiple miniatures, but can only win once per Convention year. A single entry shall be defined as any painted model or models on a single connected base (plinth, model base, diorama, etc.). All entries must have the badge name of the painter clearly written on the underside of the base material.
Miniature display, storage, theme and content:
a) All miniatures will be displayed in a public area during Convention hours and placed in the locked Bazaar (Dealer's) room when the room is closed.
b) The entrant recognizes entry into the competition is "at own risk" and acknowledge all due care will be made to protect their miniature, but will not hold SCARAB or the host responsible for any loss related to their miniature, including, but not limited to, damage to the painting, damage to the model or loss of the miniature. The host and SCARAB will post signs stating the models are not be touched, handled or moved.
c) All miniatures must be kept at a generally family friendly level of theme. No complete nudity, no sexual content, and no excessive gore is allowed. Violent material is allowed within reason by the host, and SCARAB Owners have the right to deny entry to the competition if the theme is determined to be inappropriate.
d) Miniatures will be available to the owner to retrieve at any time during the convention provided the models are not locked in the Dealer's Room after the Dealer's Room closes for the day. Retrieval of the miniature prior to the announcement of the voting result constitutes withdrawal of the entry from the competition.
e) The 1st place winners' entries will be displayed with the award and painter's name after the announcement of the award for the rest of the day on Sunday and all-day Monday until the award and miniature is collected at Registration on Monday.
f) Any miniatures not retrieved by the entrant by the official close of the convention will become the property of SCARAB and SCARAB is allowed to dispose of said models as the Board sees fit.
