SAFE SPACE CODE OF CONDUCT

What is a Safe Space?

A Safe Space is a place where anyone can relax and be able to fully express, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious affiliation, age, or physical or mental ability. A place where the rules guard each person’s self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others. Sexual violence is prohibited, racism is prohibited, misogyny is prohibited. Let's all just respect each other and have fun! Maybe save the world or the village tavern while we are at it. The Organizers reserve the right to ban and remove anyone from its events and virtual venues.

CODE of CONDUCT

(Inspired by the Adventurers League)

BE INCLUSIVE, FUN, AND SAFE!

All Participants are here to have fun and should ALWAYS feel safe and included. All participants (Players, Game Runners, and Organizers) are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

– Participants must conduct themselves in a manner that is conducive to the enjoyment and safety of others at the event.

– Avoid excessively vulgar, sexual, or overly mature language and themes.

– Follow the Game Runner's lead, avoid arguing with the Game Runner or other players over rules.

– Let other players speak, avoid talking over others.

– Avoid excessive cross-talk that is not relevant to the adventure being played.

– Allow other players to get attention from the Game Runner.

– Discourage others from using social media to bully, shame, or intimidate other participants.

No tolerance is given for harassing or aggressive behavior.

Harassing and aggressive behavior are grounds for immediate removal from the play area and the premises.

Aggressive behavior includes threats of or actual physical aggression, using racial, gender, age, sexual orientation, or cultural slurs against another participant, and otherwise harassing other participants.

WHAT TO DO?

Participants who feel as though they are in an unsafe environment should notify the Organizer of the event immediately. Participants noticing disruptive behavior should make those responsible for the behavior aware of their actions. If a participant feels uncomfortable bringing it to the attention of the disruptive individual, the participant should notify the Game Runner or Organizer of the event immediately. The Game Runner has the right to ask a disruptive player to leave the table and speak with the Organizer. The Organizer has the right to remove a disruptive or aggressive player, participant or Game Runner from the play area, convention, server, premises/venue, or meet up group.

MEDIA PERMISSIONS

By entering and participating in the online events of the RPG Alliance Convention, participants give their permission to be photographed, or recorded by the convention and give their consent to their images and video being reproduced for subsequent use in the media, webcasts, internal and external promotional purposes, advertising and inclusion on websites and social media. Images are shared publicly with open access for use.

PRONOUNS MATTER!

And we will have our name plates (with the X-card on the back), at every table to help everyone be SEEN and treated with respect. Feel free to use these name plates for your own games. Many thanks to Anita Wiebe for the idea and base design.
