Join decorated combat veteran & LITTLE BIGHORN 1976 author Pete Panzeri for a Multimedia presentation on IWO JIM 1945: The United States Marine Corps “Costliest Day” Bloodiest Battle And “Deadliest Hour” of combat IWO JIMA 1945. IWO was the only WW2 Pacific island taking more American than Japanese casualties. We will consider both the key successes and crucial mistakes for both sides, as well as the most decisive elements of the battle.
Some things you might have guessed, & some you may never have considered. By taking the most decisive Strategic, Operational and Tactical aspects; we’ll ask: What were the “ Cause-&-Effect aspects” in this FEB-MARCH 1945 struggle. Who did what? Why? And to what outcome? As you enjoy the Cold Wars 2025 convention? Please Consider: This bloody battle was raging exactly 80 years ago “to the minute.” SEMPER FI!

SPEAKER INTERVIEW:

*SPEAKER BIO: PETER PANZERI *

Pete is a decorated combat veteran, award-winning author and wargame designer. Pete’s books include KILLING BIN LADEN and he’s widely-known for LITTLE BIG HORN 1876: CUSTER’S LAST STAND, recipient of the Military Book club Award and “Order of the Indian Wars.” Pete’s Wargame Publications include his award winning SANTA ANNA RULES, w/Buck Surdu; FRONTIERS-in-FLAMES, CRAZY HORSE RULES! & RANGER RULES! Pete also received the HMGS “DUKE SEIFRIED GAME-MASTER-OF-THE-YEAR AWARD, and was inducted into the LEGION OF HONOR for the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (HMGS).

Panzeri’s military experience includes 30 years of overseas deployments, service as an 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper and a Drill Sergeant; as well as Infantry Company & battalion command/staff assignments. Pete’s military decorations include The Bronze Star, The Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Infantryman’s “Order of Saint Maurice.”

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Old Dominion University, VA and completed graduate school in Military History at The Ohio State University. He was the Chief of Military History at the US Army Infantry School, Tactics Chief at the Military Intelligence School, and taught several years for the U.S. Military Academy, West Point – Prep.

Pete’s currently in Florida — active at all HMGS & HMGS-South conventions, as always, working on several new wargame publications and HMGS convention events.
