Let's play D&D like it's 1981! Fast and deadly. You'll play as would-be heroes and gold-hungry rogues. We will journey into a dormant volcano inhabited by fire cultists, and try to free the townsfolk imprisoned there. Or perhaps your motives are not so altruistic.

Old-School Essentials is a re-imagining of the Basic/Experts D&D sets written by Tom Moldvay and Zeb Cook in the early 1980s. This version of the game is focused on detailed exploration of dungeons and wilderness environs. Combat is quick and deadly, so its best to tip the odds in your favour as best you can.
The Shivering Mountain is a scenario of my own making that takes place in a dormant volcano at the head of a densely forested valley. The Shivering Mountain has always trembled on occasion. Usually, the residents of nearby Greenwood take this as a sign that the spirit who resides within is angry, and leave offerings of livestock on the mountainside to appease it. But ever since those strange, red-clad wayfarers passed through town, the shivers have grown in frequency and intensity. And worse yet, The Ugly Mug's larder has been ransacked, a year's worth of headcheese taken. Then, just three days past, a mighty crash echoed through the valley, and Symon swore he saw a red flash and smoke rising from the bald top of the mountain. Now there is a near-constant rumble. A local priestess, Mirian the Bold, led a troop of subtly-armed villagers towards the mountain, but only one of her company returned, Old Hiles. He said that they found a yawning gate in the side of the mountain, like the mouth of some doom-heralding creature, its iron doors bent and twisted inward upon their hinges. Hiles stood guard outside while the others entered. When he heard their screams, he fled.
Will you venture into the mountain and find the source of the shivering? Can you discover the fate of the disappeared villagers? Or do you seek the treasures rumoured to lie within?
