The winter days may be short, but the convention runs for eleven hours each day with lots of opportunities for board gaming and roleplaying! George Fox University is again hosting us in the beautiful and spacious Canyon Commons.
You may be asking, "didn't you just host a convention?" or "Are you holding bi-annual conventions?" or "Why don't you hold the convention in the same month each time?" The answers are "yes," "no," and "it's complicated." BUT, we do hope to make mid-winter our regular season and to hold the convention annually hereafter!
We look forward to bringing together board game beginners, enthusiasts, young and old for a fun and exciting weekend of gaming and socializing.
We again hope to hold a board game giveaway. Everyone who purchases a badge before the Thursday, January 30, deadline will be automatically entered into a board game raffle! One brand new game for each class of badge holder – full weekend, Saturday only, and Sunday only – will be given away.
We will have a limited number of Weekend badges for $12. Single day passes are $8 each. (See below for George Fox University students discounts.) We are also seeking volunteer staff (see below) who get free admission for the day they fill a shift.
Register now, get the best prices, and reserve your spot!
By registering, you agree to adhere to the Newberg Game Con Code of Conduct. Registration is done online through this website. You will need a Tabletop.Events account to be able to purchase your badge(s). If you don't have one already, you can create one here: Create/Manage Tabletop.Events Account. By registering, you will secure your spot at the convention and receive a badge to access the convention hall, as well as exclusive perks at local businesses.
A limited number of George Fox students attend free! Contact hobbygamesofnewberg@gmail.com or paulandrewotto@gmail.com for a discount code before you register!
We're looking for volunteers to help with the registration desk and game library.
If you're approved as a volunteer, you'll receive free admission for the day you fill a shift PLUS $2 off a second day that you attend. If you fill two shifts on the same day, you get that day and the other free (but no other discounts). We will refund any badges already purchased. You ALSO get a pink staff t-shirt (different from the convention t-shirts)!
We do require that volunteers can meet the expectations for the two positions. Using the convention computer and answering questions regarding the con is required for the registration desk, and we ask that game library attendants have wide familiarity with available board games (but you don't need to know how to play all of them!)
Available shifts are listed here.
You can apply to volunteer here.
This convention is a mix of scheduled events and open gaming. This means you can sign up for an existing event, set up a game at an empty table, or look for an orange cone, which signals that an open space is available at a game someone else is running. If you are interested in running a scheduled board game event, please purchase a badge and then submit an event to be added to the event schedule.
Also, for the first time, we are hosting an official Dice Throne Tournament!
Want to host a game? Enter submissions here.
A list of the currently scheduled games is here as the games are submitted.
Most RPGs are handled as scheduled events. This means if you are interested in playing an RPG, you can sign up for an event after it is listed here under events. If you are interested in running a scheduled RPG event, please submit an event application.
George Fox University Library helps sponsor this event with a portion of their game library. This is supplemented by various local gamers and members of Hobby Games of Newberg. You are welcome to also bring your own games to play.
You may bring food and beverages into the convention space.
Complimentary coffee and hot cocoa bar courtesy of Bon Appétit Catering/Canyon Commons (while supplies last).
If you want to purchase food onsite, you may buy a meal at the Canyon Commons (dine-in only): - Brunch 10am to 1:30pm with a door price of $10.10 for all you care to eat. - Dinner 4:30pm to 7:30pm with a door price of $12.50 for all you care to eat.
Additionally, discounts at local eateries will be available (see below).
Show your badge at the local vendors during the convention days and get discounts on food or drink. Check the link above to see which vendors are working with us this time around (this list will be updated as we approached the convention dates).
