What Is The CATAN World Championship? Every year, players worldwide compete in local qualifying tournaments, which we are holding at TantrumCon. The winners of these Qualifier tournaments will win a guaranteed seat at the USA CATAN National Championship. Players will face off against all other Qualifier winners to become the year’s National Champion. Every two years, the National Champions are sent to the CATAN World Championship. The next World Championship will be held in Malta, November 2022. We will have prizes for the semi-finalists and champion of the CATAN tournament at TantrumCon.
How Does A National Qualifier Work? We will have a sequence three groupings: the preliminaries, the semi-finals, and the finals. The first group in a Qualifier tournament is called the preliminaries. The preliminaries are a series of three separate games of base CATAN. The scores that all players earn from the preliminaries determine who will move to the semi-finals.
After all games in the preliminaries have been completed, players will be ranked based on all scores from all the preliminary rounds. The top 16 players will move to the next level grouping – the Semi-Finals. The Semi-Finalists play a single game; the winner of each Semi-Final table will advance to the Finals. The Finalists play a single game of CATAN, and the winner of that final game wins a guaranteed seat at the next National Championship. The TantrumCon Champion will be responsible for their own transit, hotel, and badge to the USA National Championship.
We will have scheduled play of GIANT versions of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Connect Four, Corn Hole, and Putterball (golf).
The Neighborhood Kids Gaming group will be leading Bezier's Werewolf game on Friday and Saturday nights.
This year TantrumCon will spotlight creators and game designers in some brand news ways! We're teaming up with the organizers of Proto ATL to build a 2-part experience that will feature a Pitch Tune-Up Workshop to help designers prepare for pitching their games. And then a Pitch-A-Thon where they can put that practice into action live!
PITCH TUNE-UP WORKSHOP
On Saturday at 10 a.m., make your plans to attend our Pitch Tune-Up Workshop where you'll learn the core principles of creating a strong pitch, techniques for explaining your game concepts clearly and concisely, and how to create intrigue and genuine interest in your game! Bring your existing prototypes or attend just for the free coaching. This workshop will provide valuable feedback from designers and publishers in the industry. The Workshop is FREE but please register in early February when Event Registration opens. Note: Workshop is free with the purchase of a TantrumCon Badge.

PITCH-A-THON
Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Tantrum House will be hosting a LIVE Pitch-A-Thon for their 35k subscribers on YouTube. The show will give 10 board game designers the opportunity to present their games live and in-person at TantrumCon to be broadcast across the YouTubes. There is a cost of $25 per game pitched at this event. Pitch your game on camera for two minutes, then our hosts (designers, publishers, and media personalities) will have up to three additional minutes to ask questions about your game, helping you to put your best foot forward. Prototypes of all levels of completion are welcome.
