Tabletop Adventure Con — Cosplay Policy

Tabletop Adventure Con welcomes cosplayers of all ages and skill levels! Whether you're wearing a costume you made yourself, dressing as your favorite character, or simply joining in the fun, we want cosplay to be a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable part of the convention for everyone.

Our cosplay policy is designed to keep the convention family-friendly, respectful, and welcoming to attendees of all ages.

Family-Friendly Costumes

All costumes must be appropriate for a family-friendly environment. Costumes should provide appropriate coverage and should not contain excessively revealing, transparent, or intentionally provocative elements.

Costumes depicting characters from mature-rated media are welcome when the costume itself remains appropriate for a family-friendly convention.

Tabletop Adventure Con staff reserve the right to determine whether a costume is appropriate for the event.

Respectful Cosplay

Please remember that there are real people behind the costumes. Cosplayers should be treated with the same respect as any other convention attendee. Do not touch a person's costume, props, or body without permission.

Please do not:

• Touch or move another person's costume, wig, accessories, or props without permission

• Make unwanted comments about someone's body or appearance

• Make inappropriate or offensive remarks toward cosplayers

• Follow or repeatedly approach someone who has asked you to stop

• Take unwanted photographs or recordings

• Use cosplay as an excuse for inappropriate behavior

Cosplay is not consent.

Always ask before touching a cosplayer, their costume, or their props.

Photography & Video

Photography and video are a fun part of convention culture, but please be respectful.

Whenever practical, ask before taking close-up photographs or videos of a cosplayer, particularly when the person is posing specifically for photographs.

If someone asks you not to photograph or record them, please respect their request.

Do not photograph or record someone in a private, changing, or otherwise inappropriate situation.

Props & Costume Weapons

Costume props and replica weapons are permitted when they are appropriate for a family-friendly convention and comply with venue requirements and applicable laws.

All firearm or gun-style costume props must have a clearly visible orange safety tip. This requirement applies to realistic-looking toy guns, replicas, airsoft-style props, prop firearms, and other gun-shaped costume accessories.

All props must be carried and used responsibly.

Props may not be used to threaten, intimidate, point at, strike, or otherwise interfere with another person.

Real firearms and functional weapons are strictly prohibited. Tabletop Adventure Con staff have the right to inspect, approve, restrict, or deny any weapon or prop brought into the convention.

Realistic Weapons & Props

Because Tabletop Adventure Con is a family-friendly event, we reserve the right to deny entry to any weapon or prop that is considered too realistic, regardless of whether it is otherwise permitted under this policy.

A prop may be denied if it could reasonably be mistaken for a real weapon, create a safety concern, cause unnecessary alarm, or create confusion for convention attendees, venue staff, security personnel, or law enforcement.

Props that are particularly realistic may be required to be modified, secured, covered, or left outside the convention.

Staff decisions regarding the safety and acceptability of weapons and props are final.

When in doubt, please contact convention staff before bringing a questionable prop to the event.

Masks & Visibility

Masks and face coverings are permitted as part of cosplay as long as they do not create a safety concern.

Convention staff may ask an attendee to temporarily remove a mask or face covering for identification, security, or other legitimate safety reasons.

Costumes that significantly restrict vision, hearing, movement, or the ability to safely navigate the convention may be restricted.

Large Costumes & Props

Please be mindful of the space around you.

Large costumes, wings, tails, armor, props, or accessories should not:

• Block aisles or doorways

• Prevent others from moving safely

• Damage convention property

• Interfere with games or scheduled activities

• Create a tripping or collision hazard

If staff determine that a costume or prop is creating a safety concern, the wearer may be asked to modify it or remove it from certain areas.

Offensive or Disruptive Costumes

Costumes, signs, or props may not be used to promote harassment, hate, threats, or violence toward other attendees.

Costumes that intentionally disrupt convention activities, interfere with games, or create a hostile environment may be restricted.

Changing Areas

Please change costumes only in designated changing areas, restrooms, or other appropriate private locations.

Do not change clothing or costumes in public convention areas.

Minors

Parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for ensuring that minors in their care follow this policy.

Costumes worn by minors must be age-appropriate and suitable for a family-friendly convention.

Staff Decisions

Tabletop Adventure Con staff and volunteers have the final say regarding costume and prop safety at the convention.

If staff determine that a costume or prop violates this policy or creates a safety concern, attendees may be asked to modify it, cover certain portions, remove a prop, or leave the costume or prop outside the convention.

A prop or weapon may be denied entry if staff determine that it is too realistic or presents a potential safety or security concern. Failure to comply with staff instructions may result in removal from the event without a refund.

Whether your costume took six months to build or you put it together the morning of the convention, you are welcome here.
