Crazy 88: a Virtual Gaming Con event

I've been to conventions with things like scavenger hunts throughout the con and wanted to do one big overarching event that can last the entire convention. It will hopefully give people something to do during their downtime and provide a sense of community even though we can't all get together in real life. Crazy 88 is a game from The Netherlands based on a TV show and nowadays most often played by scouts. Inspired by a local gaming club, De Spelcarrousel, I've adapted it to be board game themed.

What is Crazy 88

It's basically one big challenge made up of board game themed tasks. Compete individually or form a team with a maximum of 6 players. Make sure all your teammates grab a ticket too! You don't have to live together, so this can be a great activity to do with friends and family members while social distancing! You'll get a list of 88 tasks to complete, all related to board games. The tasks can range from something as simple as taking a photo of your favorite game to more complicated arts & crafts projects. This is about fun, so if you don't enjoy a particular task, feel free to skip it. Completing a task is worth 1-3 points depending on the difficulty. However, creativity is rewarded: the most creative submission to a task gets 10 bonus points. These bonus points are awarded for each task individually. This means rushing through completing all 88 tasks may not be your best option! I encourage you to give it some thought and get creative, but most of all have tons of fun. The players that earn the most points will earn some prizes! However, if you're just curious to see the tasks, you can also sign up just for fun and do just a few that appeal to you. Basically, you can take this as low key or as serious as you'd like!

Prizes

The number of prizes will depend on how many participants I get. If you place in the top 3 you win a prize! As I have no clue if this is something many people are interested in or not, I'll give out another prize for every 50 attendees, counted per person and not per team. To be eligible for prizes you must complete at least 25 tasks. As this is a virtual convention, the prizes I'm handing out are also virtual (sorry guys, not rich enough to afford worldwide shipping :-P).

Starting with first place, you can pick from:
  • $25 gift card to an online games store of your choice (limited to 1)
  • how to play / rules explanation video created for a game of your choice
  • playthrough livestream or video recording featuring a game of your choice
  • roll & write game night for 4-6P (up to 3 hours, private event, not public) with games of your choice
  • online music bingo night for 4-40 people (up to 3 hours, private event, not public)

Whenever a prize mentions games of your choice, this means they can be selected from my collection (several hundred games).

How To Play + Timeline

This event will run for the entire duration of Virtual Gaming Con and people can join in whenever. The task list will be edited in here and posted on Discord once the convention has started, likely around 02:00 AM (give or take an hour). You can spend as much or as little time completing tasks as you'd like. If you have teammates, it's okay to split tasks among each other, unless specifically stated otherwise. The event ends when the convention does (which is Sunday, June 28 at 11:59 PM in the UTC-5 timezone). It may then take me 1-3 days to process all last-minute submissions, assign bonus points, tally scores, and announce results.

Task list (included detailed rules and info): Virtual Gaming Con's Crazy 88

You'll need to take pictures of completed tasks and submit them as proof to be eligible for prizes (you can totally use the camera on a smartphone or the built-in webcam on a laptop too, no need for fancy equipment). You can submit your completed tasks to me all at once or as you complete them, whatever you prefer. But don't lose track of time! Anything submitted after the convention has ended won't count. See the task list (once it goes live) or other sections in this event to read more about where and how to submit your completed tasks. Of course, you can also just play for fun and not submit anything

Completing tasks

Submitting your completed tasks for approval can be done at various places, so use whatever you prefer: + the game's Discord channel (be aware others will be able to see the photos you upload!) + emailing nonaknowsgames@gmail.com (it's recommended to do this in batches because if your attachment is too big the email may not arrive!) + sending a PM/DM to one of my social media accounts, either Facebook Messenger or Instagram Direct.

You can submit your completed tasks to me all at once or as you complete them. Remember: anything submitted after the convention has ended won't count. These instructions will be included with the task list, but are also listed here for easy reference.!
