We're excited to host a Catan Nationals Qualifier Tournament at TantrumCon for the 2019 season! In fact, we're one of very few remaining Qualifier Tournaments left in the Southeast for the 2019 championship season! The winner will receive an automatic seat at the Catan U.S. Championship held at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio from June 12 - 16, 2019.
We will run two qualifying rounds. The first qualifying round will start at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 15 while the second qualifying round will start at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 16. PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP FOR ONE QUALIFYING ROUND! Each competitor will play a total of three games during the chosen qualifying round. After these three games, we will tabulate scores and move on to the next round. If more than 28 players participate in the tournament (or at the discretion of the tournament organizer) then we will have a semi-final round starting at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 16. In this case, the 16 players with the highest rankings will compete in the semi-final round. Otherwise, we will move right to the tournament finals. The next round and its participants will be announced at approximately 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 16.
The tournament finals will take place at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 17. The finals will consist of the top four players by ranking from the semi-final round (or from the qualifying round if there are 28 players or fewer in the tournament AND at the discretion of the tournament organizer).
All players in the tournament are expected to know the rules of Catan. We will be using the 5th edition of the game for the tournament. Please click here if you'd like an official copy of the tournament rules.
The winner will be responsible for his or her own transportation, lodging, and admission to Origins Game Fair.
