We’ve noticed that many of our out-of-town attendees are hoping to get a chance to enjoy a bit of tourism while in town, so we’ve decided to help that along by creating an opening and closing party that will be authentically Denver.
In both cases, we'll have a meal together with each attendee paying for their own food.
On Thursday, March 12, at 9:00 pm, everyone is invited to meet up at the Colorado-based Restaurant & Brewery C.B. and Potts. We'll use this opportunity to get to know other designers, playtesters, and convention coordinators while enjoying some good food and drink.
There will be late night happy hour specials on both drinks and appetizers available from 9:00pm to closing at 11:00pm. C.B. and Potts is about an 8 min drive away from the hotel at 1257 W 120th Ave, Westminster, CO 80234.
On Sunday, March 15, at 5:00 pm anyone who has a little time for dinner before heading out can migrate over to our Send-Off Party at Casa Bonita. Yes, that’s right, the Casa Bonita featured on that infamous South Park episode.
As the online reviews say, you need to know what you’re getting into when visiting Casa Bonita, so we feel the best way for an out-of-towner to experience this place is with a local as their guide. That’s why we’ve decided to host our Send-Off Party here -- you’ll have some new local friends to help you navigate the murky waters of cafeteria tray Mexican food, cliff divers, cheesy stage plays, bottomless sopapillas (sweet fried bread pockets to the uninitiated), and Black Bart’s Cave!
Please be aware that the point of Casa Bonita is mainly family-friendly entertainment rather than authentic Mexican cuisine. Yes, you must buy food to enter, so we will eat dinner there, but the food is not the reason people like to visit this restaurant. We’ll use our time here to make some silly memories with new friends and say our goodbyes before everyone returns to their normal lives.
Casa Bonita is about a 23 minute drive from the Protospiel venue at 6715 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood, CO 80214.
A Note to Out-of-towners: When considering whether or not you'll have time for the Send-Off party before a flight or drive home, keep in mind that Casa Bonita has a unique way of serving and collecting payment on the food. You'll get your meal before the host station seats you, then you'll cash out your check with your server. If you know you don't want to order anything beyond your main meal, you can request your check from the server as you sit down so you'll be able to leave whenever you need to.
