Eligibility:
• You must have a valid and current Evercon badge to participate.
• You must be age 13 or older to participate in the Saturday contest. The Sunday contest is for younger cosplayers who need to be age 12 or younger.
• If you are under 13 (for the Sunday contest) you must have your parent or guardian’s permission to enter and you must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian during judging, pre-contest set up, and the contest.
• When you sign up for this contest you agree to read and abide by all rules as posted. Violations of rules will lead to disqualification and possible removal from Evercon.
• Evercon and the cosplay team reserve the right to refuse entry or participation to anyone for any reason.
Costume Dress Code:
• Coverage – Cosplay must cover the area that universally accepted swimwear (bikini or shorts) would cover in all public areas. Cosplay with open and/or exposed backs are permitted. Underwear and/or dance belts must be worn for any cosplay that has the potential for exposure of genitals or breasts. (We don’t want any wardrobe malfunctions in front of the children!)
• Sharp Edges – No part of your cosplay should be sharp or be able to cause injury to yourself or others. All sharp points or edges should be capped, taped, or dulled.
• Oversized Cosplay – Large cosplays must have at least one handler to assist you in navigating Evercon and contest. Typically, these types of cosplays have wings, tails, large extensions beyond your arm’s reach, or impair your vision.
• Posing for Photos – If you are posing for photos, please move out of walking areas or spaces where people may need to access. Remember that you have the right to decline photos with or for convention goers. We cannot, however, prevent photos being taken by attendees at a distance. Evercon staff will be taking pictures for social media purposes before during and after the contest. If you do not want your cosplay posted on social media, please let convention staff know ASAP.
• Body Paint & Glitter – All body paint and cosplay glitter must be sealed to prevent accidental transfer or excess shedding. (The convention center staff will appreciate this.)
• Bondage – Accessories that attach two or more people together are not allowed except on stage for Cosplay Contest judging purposes. This includes but is not limited to handcuffs, leashes, and ropes. No BDSM or 18+ cosplay will be permitted. As previously stated all Cosplay must be suitable for all ages to view.
• Hate Symbols – Any signs or symbols that could be characterized as hate symbols or signs of discrimination will not be tolerated. This includes any symbol that is widely accepted as a symbol of oppression, hatred, or violence towards a specific group of people.
• Signs – May not contain hate speech, solicit personal contact, or attempt to provoke arguments, fights, or violence towards a specific group of people or individual.
• Official Personnel Uniforms – Any cosplay that is designed to replicate the appearance of local law enforcement, safety personnel, venue personnel, staff, or security are prohibited.
• Shoes – Shoes or appropriate foot coverings must be worn at all times.
• Wheeled Accessories – Skateboards, bikes, roller skates, roller blades, and unicycles are not permitted inside Evercon.
• Props & Weapons – All props and weapons must be inspected by convention staff before entering Evercon. All weapons will be inspected to ensure they are not dangerous and those that pass the inspection will be tagged. If working firearms or weapons are brought to the convention center, local law enforcement will be contacted.
• Right of Refusal – We reserve the right to refuse or restrict any cosplay for any reason.
• Failure to comply with anything in this policy could result in your removal from Evercon.
Rules & Guidelines:
• Dress Code - All cosplay must adhere to the Cosplay Dress Code Policy. If your cosplay does not meet this criteria, you may be asked to change or not permitted to walk the stage.
• Keep it Clean – No offensive language or overt sexual humor will be tolerated. This is a family event with people of all ages attending.
• Respect – Be respectful of all participants, judges, and attendees. Unruly or disruptive behavior could lead to disqualification or removal from Evercon.
• Judges – Judges are not permitted to discuss the judging process or the results.
• Handlers – Entrants must be able to get on and off the stage on their own or with the help of a handler. Evercon does not provide handlers.
• Group Cosplay - Group entries of up to 6 people are allowed. Entrants may not participate in multiple groups.
• Professionals – Professional cosplayers are not permitted to enter. This is a contest for cosplay hobbyists and amateurs only.
• Late Arrival – If you do not arrive before the contest begins you may not enter. If you have already registered and do not show up you will be disqualified. We have a schedule to keep.
