DICE TOWER EAST -- CODE OF CONDUCT
We believe that games are for everyone and are committed to fostering a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for all Dice Tower East attendees, volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors, and staff (collectively, "gamers"), free from discrimination for any reason, including age, body size, disability, gender expression, gender identity, nationality, physical appearance, race, religious beliefs or background, sexual orientation, or other differences. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for gamers' behavior and consequences for unacceptable behavior. We invite all gamers to help us ensure that Dice Tower East is a safe and positive experience for everyone. Please help us keep it fun!
Expected Behavior
All gamers are expected to be considerate and respectful toward fellow gamers. This includes, but is not limited to:
Practicing good hygiene by following the 6/2/1 rule -- 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals a day, and 1 shower a day. These are minimums, and everyone is different. So, practice the minimums that work best for you.
Wearing your badge whenever you are at the convention.
Obtaining permission before photographing or recording other gamers and stopping if asked (in the case of a minor, you must obtain the permission of the minor's parent or guardian).
Complying with requests to stop unacceptable behavior.
Complying with all Dice Tower East policies.
Alerting Dice Tower staff or volunteers if you notice unacceptable behavior or someone in distress.
And, contacting emergency authorities immediately if you notice an urgent situation.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:
Vulgar, intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct (whether verbal, physical, or written).
Stalking or following.
Photographing or recording gamers without their permission (or the permission of a parent or guardian in the case of minors).
Repeated disruption of Dice Tower events or interruption of other gamers.
Inappropriate or unwelcome sexual attention and behavior, including unwanted sexual language, gestures, imagery or sexting, and use of nudity or sexual images in public spaces
Illegal activities or acts.
Inciting any of the behavior above.
And, any other behavior that Dice Tower East deems inappropriate.
A Separate and Safe Space
Dice Tower East is an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and the real world at large. There are a lot of very important conversations happening out there and we support them, but we don't want to bring them into Dice Tower East. Please refrain from any discussion of current events, political topics, medical advice, or anything else unrelated to gaming.
Young Gamers Present
Dice Tower East is a family-friendly event, and children under between the ages of 7 and 17 will be playing games too! When scheduling/hosting a game, please be sure to indicate the age range for your game. And when choosing to participate in a game/event, please be respectful of the age ranges allowed. Before allowing a child to participate in your game, taking pictures or recording a session, please get approval from their parent or guardian.
Profanity/Vulgar Speech
While certain language may not be offensive to you, please consider that some words and phrases may have a completely different effect on someone else. Purposefully obscuring profanity/vulgar phrases is not acceptable.
Copyright/Trademark Infringement
Please respect the copyrights and trademarks held by The Dice Tower, Dice Tower East and all of our sponsors and exhibitors in the industry. Posts that contain copyrighted/trademarked material or links to third party hosting sites containing material that infringes on copyrights/trademarks are not permitted. This includes content that infringes or violates any copyright, patent, trademark, or other proprietary rights of any third party.
STOP MEANS STOP!
If someone in your game has a problem with something you are doing, and they ask you to stop, you must stop it. If you choose not to stop and Dice Tower staff are notified, consequences may be enforced or you may be removed from the convention.
Reporting Unacceptable Behavior
If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have concerns that the Code of Conduct is not being followed, please notify a Dice Tower East volunteer or staff as soon as possible.
Do not engage the offender. In some cases, unacceptable behavior may stop if you clearly say "No" or "Please leave me alone," or simply leave the situation. In these cases, we would appreciate it if Dice Tower East staff are still informed to help us identify any repeat offenders.
Dice Tower East staff will take all necessary steps to assist gamers in feeling safe, including imposing consequences for unacceptable behavior. We will record a report of any incidents. When taking a personal report, our staff will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. There may be another Dice Tower East staff member involved to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we'll ask you to tell us what happened. This may be upsetting, but we'll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won't be asked to confront anyone and we won't tell anyone who you are. Incident reports will remain confidential with the exception of criminal matters, which we will report to law enforcement. However, we will take into account any concerns you may have about involving law enforcement. Our staff will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event.
Remember that the above rules and guidelines are not hard and fast rules for every situation that may arise. These guidelines are subject to change as necessary.
