This will be a swiss style tournament for the game system Bullet, by Level 99 Games. Bullet is a fast paced asymmetric puzzle game based on bullet hell type video games.
In Bullet, players take on the role of heroines in a far-flung future Earth and use their incredible powers to defend the Earth from evil — as well as from one another! Each heroine's powers manifest in a different form, with players controlling sound, paper, technology, gravity, triangles, and more!
Turns are simultaneous. Place bullets in your sight, with the color of bullet determining the column and the number how far down in that column it is placed. Use actions to manipulate bullets to form configurations matching your patterns. Using a pattern removes bullets from your sight and sends them to the opponent. When placing bullets, you skip over existing bullets in the column you place it in, with the bullet hitting you if it is placed off your sight. At the end of the turn, you'll gain even more bullets from the center bag as well as what the opponent sent, ensuring each new turn is more hectic than the last!
Choosing what order to place bullets, use actions, and use patterns in is key to staying alive as long as possible! Playing with the optional timer makes for even more intense play!
A swiss style tournament takes place over a set number of rounds, most likely 4 or 5. In the first round, players will be randomly paired with one another, in each subsequent round, players with like scores will play each other, and every round after that. For example, after round 1, all players that are 1-0 will face off, and players that are 0-1 will as well. In the next round, players that are 2-0, 1-1, and 0-2 will face off. At the end of the tournament, the player with the best record will be the winner. With this style, everyone plays in every round, players will face off against people who are of similar skill, and most importantly, there is no elimination!
For the tournament, I have 2 copies of the base game <3, one copy of the expansion, and one copy of the sequel *. Each player will select one heroine to play for the entire tournament. Come early to pick your favorite heroine first, and bring your own board, tokens and cards if you want to guarantee you play your favorite.
I have reached out to Level99 Games to see if they want to sponsor the tournament with a prize, and if they don't, I will purchase one with my own money, hopefully a copy of the game! With 3 copies of the core game I own, it can support 6 1v1 matches at a time, so the limit will be set to 12 players.
The tournament will be played according the the base rules. All 6 pairs will play at the same time, using the 3 minute round timer. With so many tables going at once, and 3 minute rounds, I estimate each round of the tournament should take about 20 minutes (most games are 4-5 rounds of 3 minutes, that gives an extra 5 minutes for setup and delays). I estimate the entire tournament should be done well under 2 hours.
If you would like to learn how to play the game, please arrive about a half an hour early, and I can explain the game to you, as well as teach you how to play the heroine you choose!
