Everyone heard it -- a single ominous toll that rang across the countryside like rolling thunder. At first, many thought it nothing more than a curiosity, but when a bizarre frost followed that withered crops upon the vine, they knew it was something more. And when the mysterious bell tolled a second time a few days later, all awoke with a sudden dread, for everyone knew its ominous clang heralded the rise of a great evil and doom for mankind. Now the nights grow unnaturally long as the dark hours drag on, and the days are clouded by a sickly fog that spreads like a crawling sickness upon the land. A spreading fear grips the hearts of every man, women, and child, a fear of what nameless evil the next toll might bestow.
Outland farmers and traveling merchants attest that the strange sound emanated from a mysterious monastery in the hills to the north, an ancient place populated by a benign order of mute monks who have lived and worked there for centuries. Who are these monks? What is the bell? And what happens should it toll again? These questions race through your mind as you make your way toward the ominous tone, for it now falls to you to seek out the mysterious monastery and silence the infernal pealing before more terror befalls the land.
Dungeon Crawl Classics plays fast and wild like old school D&D, but using simplified modern mechanics. If you're familiar with any version of D&D the rules will be easy to pick up. No experience is necessary, and pre-generated 1st-level characters will be provided. Bring polyhedral dice and a pencil.
