WHO WE ARE:

The RPG ALLIANCE is an Inclusive Gaming Community that runs role playing game events in Calgary, Alberta. For the last two years we've had one big convention every Fall at Dickens Pub.

69406157_10157181179753941_8963451379288899584_n.png

This is a +18 Event. We hope to run All-Ages events at Calgary Expo, Free RPG Day and FALLCON in 2020, so stay tuned for those in the New Year.

For 2020 we wanted to expand and run smaller events leading up to the BIG Fall convention (Nov 2020, specific date coming soon).

WHAT WE'RE DOING: A MINI-CONVENTION

On Sunday, February 23, 2020, we are hosting a MINI-Convention, meaning we are running only ONE program with at least 4-8 games (depending on the interest from Game Masters), running 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This allows us to spread out and give Players and Game Masters more room, bigger tables, less noise, trying out the Traffic Light Party rules for relationship seeking (see below), and more time to play; all issues that folks mentioned on our 2019 Con Feedback Survey that could be improved on. All proceeds from the mini-con will go towards the financing of the November 2020 MAIN Convention.

This website, Tabletop Events, uses USD (United States Dollar), and Player Badges will cost $11 USD, and go on SALE JANUARY 15, 2020.

We will continue providing a Safe Space and using the X-cards safety tool (see below for more info). Please do not bring any OUTSIDE food and drinks.

GAME MASTER SUBMISSIONS

We want you to run the GAME SYSTEM you want to so you have fun too. In the past we had a nice mix of well known games like D&D 5E and independent games for folks to try something new and different. Play time will be 5 hours (you can run longer if you like as Dickens is open until 11:00 PM), plus one 30 minute INTERMISSION for door prize draws.

The Deadline for Games Masters to submit their Game Entry is December 31, 2019. Please click on the SUBMIT EVENT BUTTON on the right page menu, to fill out the submission form for the game you want to run. Your game should be BEGINNER friendly. Please include the following information in your submission: the Game System (e.g. D&D, Star Trek, etc.), Number of Players (we recommend no more than 5-6 players), whether are you using Pre-Generated characters (we recommend this for the convention setting), are you using miniatures, any special needs. Game Masters must also support and follow our Safe Space Code of Conduct and use the X-card safety tool.

SAFE SPACE CODE OF CONDUCT:

Safe Space rules for everyone: No abusive behavior. If there is a conflict between players then the Game Master will arbitrate, if there is a conflict with the Game Master, then the Organizer will arbitrate. A Safe Space is a place where anyone can relax and be able to fully express, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious affiliation, age, or physical or mental ability. A place where the rules guard each person’s self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others.

CODE of CONDUCT:

(Borrowed from the Adventurers League)

BE INCLUSIVE, FUN, AND SAFE!

All Participants are here to have fun and should ALWAYS feel safe and included. All participants (Players, Game Masters, and Organizers) are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

– Participants must conduct themselves in a manner that is conducive to the enjoyment and safety of others at the event. – Avoid excessively vulgar, sexual, or overly mature language and themes. – Follow the GMs lead, avoid arguing with the GM or other players over rules. – Let other players speak, avoid talking over others. – Avoid excessive cross-talk that is not relevant to the adventure being played. – Allow other players to get attention from the GM. – Discourage others from using social media to bully, shame, or intimidate other participants. – Avoid phone conversations at the table. – If you must take a call, please excuse yourself from the table until your call is completed. – No tolerance is given for theft or aggressive behavior. – Theft and aggressive behavior are grounds for immediate removal from the play area and the premises. – Aggressive behavior includes threats of or actual physical aggression, using racial, gender, or cultural slurs against another participant, and otherwise harassing other participants.

**WHAT TO DO? Participants who feel as though they are in an unsafe environment should notify the organizer of the event immediately. Participants noticing disruptive behavior should make those responsible for the behavior aware of their actions. If a participant feels uncomfortable bringing it to the attention of the disruptive individual, the participant should notify the Game Master or Organizer of the event immediately. The Game Master has the right to ask a disruptive player to leave the table and speak with the organizer. The Organizer has the right to remove a disruptive or aggressive player or Game Master from the play area or premises or meet up group.

The X-CARD An X-card is a tool that helps maintain a safe environment at the gaming table. Roleplaying games can be very improvisational and adventures can vary widely in content. It can be impossible to predict when uncomfortable content might come up.

An X-card is a tool to keep the content at the table safe for everyone. It is a card in the middle of the table with an X on it. Should someone feel uncomfortable at anytime, they can tap the X-card. The event host and other players will change the content, dial it back, or skip the scene.

RPGA-con endorses and uses the X-Card as part of our plan to create a safe and inclusive environment for gamers.

The X-Card was designed by John Stavropoulos and more information about it can be found at X-Card by John Stavropoulos

*TRAFFIC LIGHT PARTY: AN OPTIONAL INITIATIVE *

Everyone wants to make new friends, some folks might be looking for more. We're going to use the TRAFFIC LIGHT PARTY SYSTEM so that everyone knows what your social boundaries are. The color GREEN means that one is SINGLE and looking for a relationship. RED means NOT LOOKING for a relationship. Yellow may mean "unsure" or "maybe," or could mean that one is in a relationship but still open to advances. The purpose of a traffic light party is to decrease the apprehension associated with approaching potential mates at parties. It also serves the purpose of providing an easy indicator of one's unavailability, to fend off unwelcome advances.

The color codes derive from the traffic light signal colors indicating RED for STOP, YELLOW for CAUTION/SLOW DOWN, and GREEN for GO.

Because we are an INCLUSIVE community we are adding 3 Extra colours: BLUE if seeking a MALE identified person, PINK if seeking a FEMALE identified person, PURPLE if seeking a NON-GENDER CONFORMING person. Now we're running out of colours, but this is a good place to start.
