Protospiel Kansas City

We'll be at the VFW Post 5789 in Lee's Summit.

If you're a game designer looking to get professional level feedback from other designers, there is no better place to get that feedback.

If you're a gamer who likes to try out new things, then Protospiel is the place for you. You'll get to see dozens of new designs in a single weekend. Plus you'll get to shape them before they hit the store shelves or the pages of Kickstarter.

Protospiel is a casual event where amateur and established game designers get together to test their prototype games in a supportive, cooperative environment. It's a great way to break your game and to fix it. Don't worry about the appearance of your game. It isn't nearly as important as the functionality. Some prototypes will be highly polished, but that's not what's important at Protospiel. Our goal is to help you make great games!

Badges & Pricing

Badge prices for Protospiel Kansas City 2025 are as follows:

Designer WEEKEND Badge - $50

Designer FRIDAY Badge - $25

Designer SATURDAY Badge - $35

Designer SUNDAY Badge - $20

Play Tester WEEKEND Badge - $10

Publisher Badge - Complimentary / See below. To qualify for a free Publisher's Badge you must have published two games by designers other than yourself within the last two years and are actively looking for another game design. Please email Admin@jtpgames.com and include the type(s) of games you're looking for in your request.

Badges may be purchased at the door with cash or credit card. No checks will be accepted.

Tabletop.Event fees will be added to all badge prices.

Last day to refund your badge is March 28, 2025.

Food & Drink

You are free to bring in outside food and drink.

There is a wide variety of restaurants within easy walking distance in downtown Lee's Summit.

You can't bring alcohol in, but the VFW has a bar in the next room, you can purchase from there.

Parking

There are several FREE public parking lots within a couple of blocks of the VFW.

Schedule

This will run like the traditional Protospiel, which is open design, collaboration, and play testing. The room will be open as follows:

FRIDAY 9am-Midnight

SATURDAY 9am-Midnight

SUNDAY 9am-3pm

The guiding principle is for designers to reciprocate other designers' time and feedback by playing each other's games. For example, if you need three play testers for your game, you should try to play three other designer's games before the event ends. This is not a hard and fast rule, but the event works best when everyone tries to follow it.

Publishers

We have publishers in attendance at Protospiel Kansas City. Many are there scouting games, but even if they aren't looking for your game, the have a wealth of knowledge from the industry and their feedback is invaluable.

Lucky Duck Games is currently looking for family+ level strategy games, like Flamecraft and Cascadia. They are not looking for party or kid’s games. They will be bringing prizes for KCBingo!

Allplay will be here testing games, and is donating some prizes as well!

About Allplay: We want more people to have game nights. We believe game nights bring people together and strengthen relationships.

We publish games that are approachable and easy to learn, but are still strategic and make you want to play over and over again. If you take your strategy seriously, then Allplay games are for you. If you're playing more for the social hangout, then Allplay games are also for you.

We also makes everything else you might need for your game night:

1. Premium tables or playmats to play on and elevate the whole experience
2. Strong, thoughtfully-designed bags to transport your games
3. Solid wood shelves to store and show off your game collection.

Allplay was founded by Chad DeShon in 2014 to sell high-end custom-built board game tables. Since then we've expanded to so much more.
