Tournament Event Pack___REV.00

  • Each army will be comprised of up to 2000 points using the General’s Handbook 2018 or points value listed in Battletomes following that release, using army composition for a Battlehost in Pitched Battles (page 48). If a model does not have a points value (such as Beasts of the Grave Terrorgheist or the Wardens of the Realmgate battalion), then it may not be used.
  • Compendium entries can be used following the point values and entries in the Compendium Update released with the General’s Handbook 2017.
  • Each player must bring seven (7) copies of their army lists to the event (one to turn in at registration, one for each of their opponents, and one for themselves). These army lists must be made with Azyr or Warscroll Builder. Handwritten army lists will not be accepted.
  • If units and models have choices of what they can be armed with, this must be clearly indicated on your army list and modeled appropriately.
  • All models must be round/oval bases as appropriate. See the Base Size Reference chart as supplied by Games Workshop for dimensions. Any deviance from the chart requires organizer approval.
  • Allegiance Abilities, Command Traits & Artefacts, as well as Battletome specific spells/prayers, must be chosen when you turn in your list for the tournament. This also includes which Realm you dedicate your army to as detailed in Malign Sorcery. These will not change throughout the course of the tournament.
  • The Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Rules, errata and all relevant Games Workshop Errata and FAQs will be used, unless an event FAQ specifically overrides.
  • Any models that you would summon must be fully painted to match your army and displayed on your army display for paint judging. This includes terrain pieces as appropriate.
  • All players are expected to abide by the Polar Vortex Conduct Policy.
  • The models used in your army must comply with the Polar Vortex Model Policy. Any models not within the Model Policy can be removed at the organizer’s discretion. This includes summoned models & terrain features.
  • Any Wyldwoods must use either Citadel Sylvaneth Wyldwood or a custom feature the same size footprint as the Sylvaneth Wyldwood kit and including at least 3 trees of the same approximate sizes as the Sylvaneth Wyldwood, and any custom trees must be the same locations as the Citadel Sylvaneth Wyldwood. Any custom features will require organizer approval prior to the event.
  • If illegal units or rules violations are found in a player's list, judges will exercise discretion in how the situation will be handled. Tournament points may be deducted and award eligibility may be forfeited.
  • Please reach out through the contact option on the Polar Vortex website to ask any questions you or your club may have regarding rules issues or legal units in advance!

  • Dice Etiquette: All dice must be rolled onto the table or into a dice try (not into your hand, or in a plastic organizer). Make sure your opponent has the opportunity to see them before you begin removing or re-rolling.

  • Realmscape Rules: Battles will be fought using the Realmscape Rules as detailed in the Core Book. The realm that the battle will be fought in, as well as the Realmscape Feature, will be pre-determined on your battleplan instructions in your player packet. BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING.
  • Malign Sorcery: During the battles, armies will have access to the additional spells for each Realm that the battle is being fought in that round of the tournament, in addition to the spell from the Realmscape Rules of the Core Book.
  • Endless Spells: It is required that all Endless Spells use stock Games Workshop models. The models are too weird and unusual to be replicated effectively. Any modification to the models will require approval from the tournament organizer.

Grimdark Live!

Polar Vortex will be partnering with Grimdark Live! to broadcast the top two tables via Twitch T.V., interview players, photos of active games, photos / video of armies, publish all lists, publish tournament results, and further type support for this tournament.

Terrain Requirements

  • Each player will be required to bring five (5) pieces of fully painted terrain for use throughout the tournament.
  • The terrain features that your army brings to the table natively do not count against this requirement. These do not have to be themed to your army (but strongly encouraged), and must be displayed alongside it for judging. These pieces will move with your army during games (so your terrain features are not randomly scattered throughout the event or accidentally taken during clean-up). Players will set up terrain before the game begins in a mutually agreeable manner.
  • Any terrain feature that has a warscroll in the GHB 2018 will use that warscroll.
  • Any terrain feature that does not have a warscroll in the GHB 2018 will roll on the random scenery chart.
  • Hills are no longer terrain features, please do not bring them.
  • Each player can bring no more than one (1) Baleful Realmgate as a terrain feature for this event.
  • Players cannot bring more than 1 Citadel Woods terrain feature in their required set of 5.
  • Players cannot include more than 1 Sigmarite Mausoleum terrain feature in their set of 5.

Event Scoring & Awards

The full rubric for event scoring is still WIP. However, we will be awarding the following awards: - Best Overall - Best General (1 for each Grand Alliance) - Best Sportsman - Best Painted -Player’s Choice Coolest Terrain (each player will receive two votes to vote for their favorite terrain of the terrain brought to the event. Players cannot vote for themselves & cannot vote for the same player more than once.)

Event FAQ

Command Models: Units may have a command model for each different option that they have access to. For instance, a unit of Ogors may have a Leader, a Bellower, and up to 2 Standard Bearers (one for each banner option they have). This is in interest of consistency with the FAQ ruling regarding Plague Monks, another unit with multiple command options.
