Ember Con Isn't Here to Turn a Profit

100% of the proceeds raised from badge and game ticket sales go towards the National Fallen Fire Firefighter’s Foundation (NFFF). The NFFF is a nonprofit that provides funds for firefighters who are injured on duty - and helps cover the funeral costs for families who experience a line of duty death. Mental health support, scholarships, and much more make-up the full mission of the NFFF.

Over 80% of firefighters in Wisconsin are volunteers, making it difficult for them to receive healthcare for injuries they receive on the job. That’s where the NFFF comes in. By providing the much-needed funds for medical care, injured firefighters can be back on their feet as fast as possible. You can read more about the NFFF at www.firehero.org.

Why the NFFF? Ember Con's founder (and single organizer, it's a one-man show) is a full-time firefighter who has seen and heard first hand how great of an impact the NFFF makes. Last year, Ember Con raised nearly $500 for the NFFF, and we are looking to raise even more in 2027!

FAQ

1. What is the parking situation?

Ember Con has free parking at the venue!

2. Is there a hotel block?

Maybe someday! For now, attendees book their own hotels. Good news, not much is happening in Madison on June 26 and 27, so hotels should be easy to find.

3. What hotels do you recommend?

The closest hotel we recommend is The Moxy. Located 0.8 miles away from Ember Con, this is the most convenient option. Other nearby options include Hiltons, Holiday Inns, Fairfield, and other downtown options!

4. Are there food vendors?

There are not, but Ember Con is located in a great neighborhood with fantastic takeout options. EVP Coffee, Baldwin Street Grill, and Crystal Corner are all within a five minute walk of the venue. Tokyo Sushi, Grampa's Pizza, Taco Palace, and much more offer delivery or are a ten minute walk away.

5. Is outside food allowed?

Absolutely! Feel free to bring any snacks, drinks, or full meals into the venue... with one important exception... (see 6 below)

6. Is there alcohol?

Absolutely NOT! Seriously, this is a big one. There is a ZERO tolerance policy for alcohol on convention grounds. Our venue vendor is awesome and this is their biggest request. There are some great bars in the convention’s neighborhood (read, offsite!) - we can give recommendations for a post game drink.

7. I've never played a TTRPG, should I come to Ember Con?

Of course you should! All our GMs will be happy to teach you how to play and will bring all the materials you need. Our best suggestion is to check the Lineup page, and register for games that sound interesting. You do not have to register for every game slot. Even if you drop in for one quick game, we are happy you attended.
