Well, Chango did it. He went off and caught Covid-19, the coronavirus. Of course, we told him that's not what we meant...
Our staff are fine, healthy and, as far as we know, coronovirus free.
In all seriousness, due to the safety measures being put in place by the county, it's with a heavy heart that we announce postponing Chupacabracon. We want Chupacabracon to be a safe, inviting place for everyone to game, and we just cannot guarantee that given COvid-19, the recommendations of medical and science community, and some of the projections made.
So, 2020 is not happening as a live event. However, we are examining the possibility of doing a virtual event in August. The presumptive dates are the 14th through the 16th. Keep an eye out here and in our Facebook page and group (the group being the more active of the two).
We are currently working to refund all of the badge and booth fees. Please bear with us as we work through that process. Some of you have told us to keep the badge fee as a donation. However, the system is not set up to facilitate this. So, you will be receiving your refund. If you choose to donate it, please look for organizations supporting our front line workers or businesses during this global crisis.
We want to take this time to thank all of you for your support and hope you and your loved ones are safe, healthy, and with toilet paper.
As usual, let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you
Chupacabracon is the premiere tabletop RPG and board game convention in the greater Austin area. In 2020 it will again be held at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel & Conference Center in Round Rock, Texas, just North of Austin, proper. The conventionĀ is run by nonprofit foundation Austin Creative Pathways benefiting Extra Life whose mission is to unite thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
ChupacabraCon is a small event, pulling visitors from around the country. We are known for having an unusually high number of professional guests for an event at our size. We routinely host 25 to 30 industry guests (more than 45 this year, so far) including designers and authors of many of the top RPGs. Being a small event of less than 1000 attendees, this is a unique opportunity to meet your favorite designers, many of whom run their games at ChupacabraCon.
We also host many special events at the convention. D&D Adventure's League and Pathfinder Society regularly host unique, special events at our little convention. We have also hosted Savage Saturday Night every year from our inception. This is an evening of games run by the authors of Deadlands, East Texas University, Savage Rifts, and many other Savage Worlds settings. We hold an interactive celebrity game, where audience members can pledge to the charity for the opportunity to shape the story, make the rolls for the celebrity players, and otherwise make their session more interesting.
Chupacabracon is returning to the newly renovated Wingate by Wyndham and Williamson Conference Center in Round Rock, Texas. Rooms are available at a special rate of $109/night using the code CGCPRO. In years past you would need to call them with the code. We've been assured the online registration system has been updated to accept the code.
We have been told, from attendees and industry guests both, that Chupacabracon is one of their favorite events of the year. Come join our family of gamers!
ChupacabraCon is dedicated to a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. Our anti-harassment policy and terms of purchase (including rules and regulations) can be found in our Code of Conduct.
