This update includes our fundraiser tallies, upcoming charitable appearances and games, and future plans. It concludes with an ask of you, our heroic party members on this quest, so please read to the bottom.
Thank you for attending in support of our charitable mission - helping communities and lives through gaming. With your help, our event grew in size and in fundraising scope. This year, we raised just over $13,000 in 3 days!
As you can imagine, it can be costly to put on an event like D8 Summit Charity Convention. We are making arrangements and signing contracts now for next year. We look forward to cutting our friends at Lee County Council on Aging a check very soon, as well as a check to support Lena tornado victims. None of this would be possible without you, so thank you!
This next year, we have expanded our charitable footprint pretty substantially. These events include:
Our charity con filled the Post House Ballroom this year to the point that, while we could have fit more people in there, it would have been overcrowded. Anticipating this possibility last year, our Board was in talks with another historic location offering us the space we need for games, as well as a variety of spaces for new and fun activities. This includes our meet and greet activity on Thursday night, the Nerd Gala, so guests have something to do after they pick up their badges on Thursday night.
Next year, our 2027 D8 Summit Charity Convention will be held at the Northwest Territory Historical Center in Dixon, IL. Games will occur all over the museum, meaning they could occur in two larger areas (the Auditorium and the Loft Gymnasium can both host an epic), the theater, or in one of the exhibit rooms hosting intimate games with our special guests. Many exhibits will be open as well for donors to enjoy throughout the weekend, some with guided tours.
Speaking of special guests, we can announce one of them, and it's pretty awesome. Bryan CP Steele is a gaming creative with an extensive portfolio, most recently joining the Thundercats RPG team. CP is not only a brilliant creative, he is also a delightful conversationalist and a kind soul. We look forward to offering you some great games ran by him. There are also a few more guests we haven't announced yet, and we will keep adding more as early badge sales allow.
We have heard enough positives from guests about the new Fairfield by Marriott in Dixon that we will secure a room block next year.
As convention lovers ourselves, we understand conventions can cost a lot of money. That is why we will not be increasing the cost of our badges for the fourth year in a row next year. We thank you for your generosity in your attendance year after year.
Our convention is entering a second growth cycle. To see us through it while ensuring donations get to the people who need it most, please consider doing the following.
We couldn't do what we do for our nerdy gamer family and the wider community in which we live without your support. On behalf of the D8 Summit Charities Board and our volunteers, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to what this year and 2027 have in store!
When you game for charity, everyone wins.
